“How to Make Your Home Smart”

I am passionate about home automation, and for years I’ve enjoyed automating household objects, including appliances, especially older ones, with the goal of turning my home into a smart home, following the essential philosophy of low cost. My dream is to transform my house into a different space, where in the future, I can interact with a new “entity.”

On this topic, I have developed and integrated technologies that have now come to life in ALEX. Although I am passionate about home automation (smart homes in a more modern sense), I am aware that in its basic essence, it has not yet captured attention because people believe that home automation doesn’t offer real benefits. However, I am convinced that this gap will drastically narrow in the coming years as the very concept of home changes.

Building a smart home doesn’t simply mean being able to control the lights, blinds, or know the home temperature. From my perspective, it means allowing the house to interact with the outside world to benefit from all the knowledge, services, and opportunities that the internet offers today.

If we think about the revolution in recent years regarding value-added services that are accessible with a simple click, it’s easy to see how life in a smart home will change.

For example, the increasing use of services such as JustEat for food delivery, Supermercato24 or Carrefour for grocery delivery, or systems already integrated with specific hardware, like Amazon’s Dash button for one-click purchases of items such as coffee, detergents, etc., makes it evident even to the less tech-savvy that our lives will inevitably be changed by the integration of these systems into our homes.
